Artful towns are also cookie cutter:

In Santa Cruz every single shop we entered played repeats of the same yesteryear music. I was pleasantly surprised in the first shop (on the wharf), the young store clerk was singing along word for word with folk and other songs from the 70s. Each of the stores we went into played the same songs. They even played Tupelo Honey. I also think they spritzed the air with something that made me dizzy. Just kidding about the spritzing and the dizziness.

Had to think it was trickery and part of some larger scheme to distract us from our dystopia. Called it a fun time, grabbed dinner, went back to the hotel, took off our masks and I put on my tin foil hat. Just kidding about the tin foil hat. 🤣
