Born in east la:

As a kid living in Southern California, I thought the berry farms theme park was directly across the street from Disneyland. I guess I was really good at blanking out back then, i.e. I'm at Disneyland, blink, then I'm at the berry farms or vice versa.

When we drove to Disneyland, I thought, oh there's the lame ole berry farm on the opposite side of the street. Haunted houses and roller coasters were my favorites, but now I'm terrified of both.

I remember thinking the berry farms was a big zero as an attraction for entertainment, compared to Disneyland. I have no idea how many times I went there, but it was more than enough. I'm sure my parents wanted jam or something.

As I got older, the sounds of amusement park rides mocked the bad feelings in my gut. I hated the cheap junk that could be won and I felt sorry for the goldfish in the small bowls.
