LOVING Higher Power

I love that Twelve step programs mention a LOVING Higher Power in almost every step. "LOVING Higher Power... LOVING Higher Power... LOVING Higher Power..." I Love it! I first heard about a Higher Power in the '80s and it was from my friends in recovery. However, they never mentioned the Loving part. One of the most popular songs on the radio, at the time, was Higher Love, by Steve Winwood. Here are some of the lyrics:

I refer to my Higher Love or Loving Higher Power as God. I call out to this Loving Higher Power, for help, when my thoughts become hateful and negative toward others or myself. I normally never have to deal with self hate, unless I'm around a toxic person that puts me down, mocks and judges me about my vulnerabilities. I choose to stay away from those types of people after this part of them shows up.  Higher Love, Steve Winwood
